Once upon a time in a small village nestled among rolling hills, there was a young cow named Betsy. Betsy was different from the other cows in her herd, she was quieter and more reserved, and didn't enjoy the same things that her boisterous companions did.
One day, while wandering through a nearby field, Betsy came across a young girl named Sarah. Sarah was kind and gentle, and Betsy was immediately drawn to her. Sarah would come and visit Betsy every day, bringing her fresh water and hay, and stroking her soft fur.
Over time, Betsy and Sarah's friendship grew stronger. Sarah would sing to Betsy and read her stories, and Betsy would listen attentively, her big brown eyes gazing up at her friend with affection.
As the months went by, Betsy's herd began to notice that she was spending less time with them and more time with Sarah. They would tease her, calling her a "human cow" and laughing at her for her odd behavior. But Betsy didn't care, she was happy just being with her true friend.
One day, while Betsy was grazing in the field with Sarah, a group of wild dogs suddenly appeared. Betsy tried to run, but her legs were weak from lack of exercise, and she knew she couldn't outrun them.
Sarah quickly grabbed hold of Betsy's rope and pulled her towards her, using her own body to shield her friend from harm. The wild dogs snarled and barked, circling closer and closer, but Sarah stood her ground, unflinching in her determination to protect her friend.
Eventually, the dogs grew tired of their game and slunk away, leaving Betsy and Sarah shook but unharmed. Betsy looked up at Sarah with a look of deep gratitude, and Sarah smiled back at her, her heart full of love and pride for her brave friend.
From that day forward, Betsy's herd began to treat her differently. They respected her for her bravery and loyalty, and slowly began to include her in their daily activities. But even though Betsy had found acceptance among her own kind, she never forgot the true friend who had stood by her in her time of need.
Years went by, and Betsy grew old and grey. Her herd had long since moved on to greener pastures, but she still spent her days in the field, surrounded by the memories of her youth.
One day, as she lay down to rest, Betsy closed her eyes and took her last breath, her heart full of the warmth and love that had sustained her throughout her long and happy life. And though she was gone, she knew that her true friend Sarah would never forget her and that their bond would endure forever.
